What is Camp Mitchell’s Mission?

“Camp Mitchell seeks to restore all people to unity with God and each other through work, worship, and play.”

We’re not Episcopalian. Can my child still attend Camp Mitchell?

Of course! Campers come from many different faiths, including some who do not have a faith tradition. In the Episcopal Church our motto is: “All are Welcome here!” And we mean it! Camp Mitchell provides a safe, loving, playful, and welcoming environment for all.

What sort of vetting process is in place for your staff?

Everyone on staff is vetted through a comprehensive process which includes a written application, an in-person interview, background checks, first-aid/CPR training, and a full safeguarding curriculum through Praesidium. In addition, our summer staff have two-weeks of onsite training which covers general best practices, behavioral management, neuro-divergence, disabilities awareness, safety and equipment, emergency protocols, and more. Our lifeguards are certified by the Red Cross.

Can My Child’s Friend Be In The Same Group As My Child?

Yes. While making new friends is an important part of the camp experience, in the registration process you will be asked if you have a buddy request. You can put in one friend’s name and they can put your child’s name on their registration form. We do not put larger groups together because it can put others in the group at a disadvantage; we do not want situations where, for instance, a single camper is put with a group of five campers who are already close friends.

Will you accommodate LGBTQ+ campers?

Yes. Camp Mitchell strives to create a fully inclusive culture and environment that values equality and fosters respect for all people. In alignment with our faith, vision, and mission, Camp Mitchell welcomes all persons, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, as guests and as full participants in all our programs. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Andy Duchossois at andy@campmitchell.org.

Camp Mitchell Statement of Inclusivity: We will be here when you need us. We will not only accept you, but celebrate you! We will ensure your safety and comfortability. We will be sure to set the precedent that this is a place for education and UNCONDITIONAL LOVE!

Can you accommodate campers with special needs?

Our counselors are trained to work with children and adults with special needs. Robert R. Brown Camp is a session specifically designed for adults with mental and physical disabilities, so our camp setting and staff are set up to accommodate a variety of needs. If your child has a special need, please indicate what accommodations they will need while at camp and we will do our best to work with you and your child to create a safe and inviting camp experience.

Can you accommodate campers with special dietary needs?

We are deeply committed to approaching our dining hall through a trauma informed care lens. We invite you and yours to our crowded table exactly as you are. We are dedicated to creating a safe, brave, inclusive, and DELICIOUS eating experience to all folks. Chef Michael Campbell is well-studied culinary specialist. He not only is dedicated to a from scratch and truly scrumptious approach to our dining hall experience, but also one that is dedicated to including every member of our community! Please be sure to note your camper’s dietary restrictions, hurtles, and preferences on their application. If you would like to discuss your camper’s dietary needs further, please reach out to our Director of Inclusive Programs, Andy Duchoissois, to discuss dietary restrictions, including allergies, and how we can best support your camper and their family. Caregivers of campers with allergies or dietary restrictions may bring prepared food for their camper to be kept in the dining hall for meal times, with advanced approval, but many of the most common dietary restrictions and allergies can be accommodated if noted before camp on your camper’s health form.

Is financial assistance available?

Camp Mitchell has some “campership” funds reserved to help children who need financial assistance to get to camp. At Camp Mitchell we believe “everyone has a ticket to camp!” If your only reason for NOT coming to camp is financial, than we believe you don’t have a reason! Reach out! We want to connect and we want to help you and yours get to Camp Mitchell! The Mountain is more magnificent with us all! Many Episcopal churches also provide assistance. If you are part of an Episcopal community, reach out to your leaders and see what kind of funding is available through our diocesan church homes. Please email colleen@campmitchell.org with “Scholarship” in the Subject line for more information regarding our Camp Mitchell Campership Fund. Want to give back to the scholarship fund?! Go to the “GIVE” section of our website, and donate today!

How much does it cost to go to camp?

Our camp program costs $600 a week per camper. If this is not possible for your family see above and reach out to us! We are dedicated to making Camp Mitchell accessible to all.

No matter what amount of financial assistance is received - the amenities, activities, and camp experience will be the same.

Staffing Camp

How old do you have to be a summer staff counselor?

A full year from high school graduation. In certain circumstances we allow graduated seniors who will be 18+ before Camp begins the opportunity to apply to be on staff a year early. If you would like more information on staff please email cam@campmitchell.org.

How old do you have to be a LeadER in Training (LIT)?

Completed 9th Grade

Can I be a LIT and a camper in the same summer?

Yes! You are still eligible for Senior High Camp, even if you sign-up to volunteer throughout the summer. We put Senior High Camp at the beginning of the summer, in order to give our high school aged volunteers the opportunity to serve camp, while still getting to experience summer camp as a camper throughout high school.

Can I get volunteer hours for school if I lIT?

Yes! It’s a GREAT way to get meaningful volunteer hours. We’re happy to sign off on paperwork for this. Have you served at Camp and need a recommendation letter? Reach out to larnie@campmitchell.org
